Resources
The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) is the bookseller's voice in the fight against censorship. ABFFE offers resources about the importance of free expression to booksellers, other members of the book industry, politicians, the press and the public.
Bookseller Resources
Here, you'll find resources to help you exercise and display your commitment to free expression rights in your store. Documents like our Free Speech Checklist and even videos like Scenes from a Bookstore - Free Speech Vignettes assist you and your staff in assessing your approach to the First Amendment. Pamphlets like "Protecting Customer Privacy in Bookstores;" ABFFE's "In Case of First Amendment Emergency" placard; and statements on author appearances, reading selection, and reader privacy act as great training tools and allow you to demonstrate your policies to clearly to customers and law enforcement officers.
Free Speech Training Guide and Film
View ABFFE's Scenes from a Bookstore, a series of vignettes that illustrate appropriate (and inappropriate!) ways to handle customers' free expression-related concerns. A discussion guide is also included on this page.
